Big Hair Don’t Care – Oribe Dry Spun Thickening Hairspray

Holy Smokes – if you want some BIG hair and have the cash to drop about $31 dollars on some spray – pick up some Oribe.  The beauty bloggers out there were right… it gives you hair the extra oomph that it needs.  What I will caution is that make sure when you spray the roots that the rest of your hair (especially if you have LONG hair) gets some love too!  Otherwise you’re hair is going to look a little wonky with all the volume on top and flat ends on the bottom.

Would I pick this up again?  No, it was probably the champagne I was drinking during brunch that blurred my frugalness… but I am keeping it and testing it agains the Bumble and Bumble spray.  A review of both will be on it’s way 🙂

Review of Nuxe Reve de Miel Honey Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve de MielIt’s no secret my love for all things beauty!  To be honest with you – I would rather use my funds for trying out the next new beauty product than paying for a wedding (shhh… don’t tell anyone)  So I justify all of my recent skincare purchases on the simple fact that my skin, lips, face, needs to be in TIP TOP shape for the big event!  Enter, Nuxe Reve de Miel Honey Lip Balm.  If you watch YouTube like I watch YouTube, all the British Beauty Bloggers RAVE about this product.  Don’t be scared by the murky yellow color of the product.  It is quite good at nourishing your lips.  I’ve been using it for a few months now before I go to bed and around the house and it’s doing wonders for my lips!!!

What I love about this product is that the smell doesn’t make me want to puke.  What I don’t like about the product and what will definitely turn some people off about it is the consistency.  It’s definitely on the thicker side and you definitely glop on the product.  If you don’t mind consistency so much this product will be amazing – it’s really great too as a base for lipsticks… especially MATTE lippy’s since this product is ALSO matte (by the way)!

Places to find this little gem – I went to the Walgreens (aka French Skincare Mecca) by Chinatown in Washington DC.  They sell Nuxe, Kloraine, Roger & Gallet, etc.  It’s almost like walking into to a European Pharmacy! Otherwise you can visit Amazon or to order it online.

The Naked (by Urban Decay) Effect

Naked PaletteI am sure that you’ve read all the reviews out there about ALL the Naked Eyeshadow Palettes.  After reading and watching (what feels like EVERYONE’S) opinion about the palettes… I have come to one single conclusion… choosing a favorite palette is VERY personal!  I think the folks over at Urban Decay did a great job with the original Naked Palette – and my personal favorite.  However, I have read everything from Naked 2 being the favorite or Naked 3 being the new front runner.  What I do know is that the MAKE-UP HOARDER in me couldn’t live without having all of the palette’s in my possession!

Naked 3 - The newest girl on the block

The Naked 2 Palette - The Middle Child

The Naked 2 Palette – The Middle Child

The Original Naked Palette - My personal favorite!

The Original Naked Palette – My personal favorite!

All of the palettes have a LOVELY color and pigmentation and come with some good shadows and shadows that I don’t really use on a regular basis.  I guess you win some and you lose some.  There are some similarities and very “slight” differences in each palette.  Take for instance in the Naked 2 Palette – my most used shades are Tease (which makes a great crease color) and Foxy which I use as an allover lid color.  It gives off a more natural effect for when you have wake up early in the morning and need to look more awake!
Naked Palette

Like I said before – these palettes are of a personal preference – those Naked “virgin’s” out there (and I know there are a few of you) should probably go and test drive each palette at your local Ulta or Sephora to find which one works best for your skin tone.  $50 bucks, while not a bad deal for the amount of product you’re getting, is still a hefty price tag!

Hello Stranger!

To say that the past month and a half has been a whirlwind is an understatement!!!  It has been a challenging but wonderful experience at work – however, now I am BACK!  To be honest, with how busy I am with work and life – it’s been really difficult for me get up early in the morning and put on make up.  I am ashamed to admit it… but I WILL be honest with you!!!  So no make up for a month and half has been an eye opening experience.  Not only did it let my skin breathe a little bit – it also made me realize how much I missed my make up.  Once all of my meetings were over… I went straight to a Sephora and purchased myself some bits and a new pair of sunglasses to celebrate the warmer weather in D.C.

Spehora Haul 03.08.2014

Let’s down to the details… this trip was mainly focused on getting the Bumble and Bumble dry spun thickening spray.  To say that I haven’t had this on my mind for MONTHS is an understatement.  The many beauty vloggers and bloggers that have written and recommended this product has been immense.  While I have very long hair it the volume tends to die down after awhile… so why not get a little help?  I was holding this at the Sephora store and one of the lovely ladies that works at the store raved about it – so the $36 price tag was worth it… at least that is how I shall justify it.

The MUFE Mat Velvet + is oil free and water resistant.  I am a huge fan of MUFE products.  The range of foundation color that they have is simply amazing and I was in the market for a Matte foundation with the summer months coming.  I read on buynowbloglater (one of my faves) that wearing a Matte Foundation during the warmer months will actually give you the “just enough” dewy complexion that you’re looking for… So I am going to try it out when the weather gets warmer

The last product that I actually PURCHASED at Sephor was the Hairdresser Invisible Oil.  This is a new product for me.  It’s a duo heat protectant and finishing product after you have a blow out.  I have a ton of hair products that I need to use up – but I did want to try this out along with some Joico products I got during Christmas… Add that to my hair repertoire.

The rest of the products were some “freebies” or more like you’ve spent a TON of money at Sephora so here is your free gift.

L’Occitane oils and lotions that I just love and  Tory Burch Perfurme that I want to try out (sorry it’s not pictured… it was a bit blurry and I wanted to get a post up before I start my day)

The LAST thing I purchased were some new sunglasses!  They are HUGE and Dark and as much as Rayban Wayfarer’s are so popular and the smaller sunglasses are becoming the “In” thing… I shall never stray away from my large sunglasses… I just can’t and I will forever love them!  They weren’t bad – it cost about $98 at Nordstroms.

What a great way to start off the Spring!  Have a great Sunday!

Enjoy! xoxo

Building Your Beauty Kit – Drugstore

I remember being a wee little one and wanting to “secretly” buy make up.  My mom (bless her) wasn’t into beauty products, and there were many moments in my life where it was very much the blind leading the blind.  However, I managed to get my head out of my arse and started my very own make up collection… with a lot of experimentation!  Here are my suggestions for a newbie starting their make up collection on a BUDGET!

1.  Maybeline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded – Yes, yes, yes, we’ve all heard the hype about the Color Tattoo’s and how fantastic they are (which they are)
however, this little gem is a dupe for the much hyped MAC Bare Study paint pot and gives you a lovely base to apply your eye shadow!  I don’t actually own this yet… hence why it didn’t make the cut in pictures… 🙂

2.  Wet N Wild Color Icon Trio in Walking on Eggshells – This is the most natural of the natural… don’t even know what that means… but this is a great product at a fraction of the price of most high end (even low end) eye shadows.  I would definitely pick up this trio to start someone’s beauty kid

3.  Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation – A girl needs a good foundation!  And this is a great one for sure!  The light coverage won’t scare away a beginner with it’s price tag.

4. ELF Contour & Blush Set – For a few dollars investment you get a bronzer and blush in one.  Now, I know that this bronzer can read a little muddy on certain skin tones o a light hand might be needed with this – but the blush is great and worth it in my book!

5.  Revlon Lash Potion in Blackest Black – This mascara is pretty amazing.  It gives you a natural volume and is great to wear during the daytime. It lengthens and volumizes your lashes just enough without making you look like a stripper (GO REVLON!)

So, those are the 5 things I think a girl should start with… venturing off into the beauty abyss and enabling beauty hoarders everywhere!

December 2013 Favorites

So I am a little late with these December favorites!  It was a very busy start of the year.  However, I was very happy to kick it off with great friends and wonderful family!  I hope that everyone had a fantastic New Year and my deepest apologies on the lateness (is that a word?) of this blog post.

This December favs post certainly has a motley crew of products… and as random as they are – they have made my life so much easier looking like I have it together…

December 2013 Favorites_1Elf Eye Brow Duo – I really got into eyebrows this year.  I know that people go nutso over the Anastasia Brow stuff and I am sure that I will get into that in due time.  But I will say that for my dark hair and my complexion the Elf Eye Brow Duo does JUST fine… thank you!  The product is actually a dupe (or at least I THINK it’s a dupe) for the Benefit Brow Zings – it does come with a small brush – however I just used a Eco Tools brush for the brows!

Tangle Tamer – Hair is not something that I love doing… I have long hair and it’s black… I am lucky enough to be able to put my hair in a bun and people think that I have spent hours curling it… I don’t.  So this gem of a product has saved my locks more than you can imagine.  I like using it in the mornings when I need to run a brush through the rat’s nest of the brush.

Vera Wang Lovestruck Perfume – I wrote a blog post about this perfume a few months ago and I remember watching a video where Michele1218 raved about this perfume.  It has made a comeback in my daily routine.  The versatility of this product is insane and I suggest if you see this to pick it up and don’t look back.

December 2013 Favorites_2Original Naked Palette – You can’t beat an Original.  The FIRST Naked palette has made a come back in my daily routine.  With the influx of holiday parties and weddings during  December and January I have been using this palette on the daily… and since it’s on TOP of my make up pile, I have been reaching for it in the mornings before work.  I usually wear Naked and Buck for a natural eye look… I will definitely repurchase Naked when I run out!

Catwalk Root Booster and Texturizing Spray – I hear about Bumble and Bumble and Oscar Blandi – but this spray gives AH-mazing volume.  I certainly don’t wear this on a daily basis… because the HAIR gets a bit big… although you know what the say about BIG HAIR….you’re closer to God (get your mind out of the gutter)

Soap and Glory Heel Genius – My tootsies needed A LOT of TLC this winter.  This product was fantastic.  I loved the smell and the mint green lotion better than the hand food (i know… i know) grant it I used this for my FEET only… but if they made the Hand Food smell like this…. I would buy it by the droves.

Shesheido Facial Cotton – I LOVE THIS STUFF!  Not only does it feel great on my skin and it doesn’t shed all I do is use one and it takes 90% of my make up off…  It does set you back about $9 dollars – but if you get it on sale it’s worth it.  There are other Organic cotton out there, I believe Target sells it, I haven’t found it during my Target excursions but I shall try it out as soon as I have found it!

So my resolution for more consistent blogging in 2014 didn’t come to fruition.  I will tell you I acquired and am testing out a bunch of products in the New Year and I am excited to post more stuff about them 🙂

Enjoy! xoxo

Post-Christmas Sephora Spending

If you’ve read my blog before… I think that you probably already know that I have a HUGE problem with Sephora. Now, I do love my drugstore brands… however… there is just nothing better than going into the abyss that is Sephora and purchasing some luxurious high end brands.  So for Christmas, I treated myself and took off some items on my Wish List.

Sephora Haul 01So let us begin!

Hourglass Ambient Powder Brush – This little purchase is a preview to my most EXCITING purchase.  It has very soft bristles and feel very luxe on the face.  It comes with a bag to protect the brushes and I can’t wait to use this week for what I am calling “The Week of Weddings”

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream – I have heard great things about this products from the bloggers to someone that’s actually used it!  I am looking forward to giving my under eye some TLC.  So this will be a lovely, lovely addition to my arsenal.  I am curious how the de-puffing will work.  I have used the First Aid Beauty de-puffing roller and it was great for me and has been the best product.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never – This is another cult beauty product that I have been pining over… Especially over the Christmas Holiday’s.  Now, I know there are much less expensive products out there and while they maybe very good.  I just had to try what people are calling one of the best lipstick/pencils out there!

Sephora Haul 2

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Anti-Aging – Since I am getting up there in age I thought that I would help the situation by trying out the primer potion… I figure we should preserve what we were given and while I do adore wearing make up… maybe I should have my make up work for me?  Well it worked in my head.  I love the Urban Decay primer potions and I am sure I love their packaging.

Hourglass Ambient Light Powder in Radiant Light – So this was my exciting purchase.  While I didn’t get my grubby mitts on the trio (which I coveted from far away) I did get my hands on the lovely Radiant Lighting powder.  Going hand in hand with the brush I purchased on a whim.  I am very much looking forward to using this all over my face… especially for this week.

If you’re reading this before 2014… I wish you and everyone you care about a very Happy and Bountiful New Year!  It shall be a very exciting one for me… for sure!

Christmas Hauling!

I hope that everyone out there had a HAPPY HOLIDAY’S  I sure did.  I love this time of year – spending quality time with family both near and far!  It’s fantastic.  What is more fantastic is how my loved ones know me OH SO WELL!  My “Maids of Honor” both found some products for me to try out and use oh and the Naked 3 palette (because I need to have the complete set… right?!)

So let’s get HAULING!

Christmas Beauty Haul

Rose Salve from C.O. Bigelow – I have used the Rosebud Salve for at least a year now – I have hit pan… but don’t be deceived by that because there is a TON of product in this little tin.  I am looking forward to using the Rose Salve… because I LOVE the smell of roses and I do adore the product.  I think that I will use this before bed… I love waking up to a soft lip!

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray – I am curious about this product.  I do really like Bumble and Bumble products and while I don’t use hairspray that often I think that I will try and go for some big hair experimentation this week where I attend a New Year’s Eve wedding (WOO HOO!) I will report back how BIG my hair gets!

Christmas Haul 2Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette – This I was gifted by my little sister – I feel like it’s a nice full circle gift since I have purchased the two other naked palettes for her 🙂 the colors are beautiful in the pan.  I can’t wait to play with these shades… I will resolve to add more eye make up to my morning routine for work!  And on top of it all.. my UD Naked Palette Trifecta is complete… I couldn’t live with myself if it weren’t (obsessed? probably!)

Matrix Amplify Shampoo and Conditioner – Going along with my “Big Hair” experiment I was gifted this shampoo and conditioner – I have been currently using the John Freda thickening shampoo and conditioner along with the Bed Head thickening and texturizing spray and it’s been a awesome combo to give my hair thickness and volume.  So I am excited to try this along with the BB Thickening Hairspray my hair might be unstoppable in the New Year!

Lush Bath Balmw – I think?  There wasn’t any instructions in my bag – but this bath balm smells delicious and I can’t wait to use it… might do a fake “spa” day at the hotel before the wedding 🙂

Bumble and Bumble Petite Pins – I am having a “black and white” moment in my fashion (or I might be getting really lazy) so this will work with my hair!  There is nothing better than pinning your hair back for an easy hair look before work!  I think that everyone should try it at least once… especially if you’re growing some bangs out… which I think I have become a professional… I am thinking if I want to do a bang… I should do it now before my November wedding!

I hope everyone has a VERY Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I resolve to live in the moment and to wear more eyeshadow 🙂

Look at What I Bought… Sephora!

Since I have been lost in the world of full time employment… bleh!  My first post back should be something spectacular!!!  Right?!  Well, I am so sorry to disappoint… but I did buy a few things when Sephora gave me $20 extra bucks to go shopping 🙂

I must say I didn’t buy anything too outlandish, but HIGHLY NECESSARY!

Sephora HaulSo here is my skincare centric Sephora Haul.

  1. First Aid Beauty – Facial Radiance Pads – I personally think that First Aid beauty doesn’t get the props that it deserves out there as a skincare brand… yeah… we hear about how great other skincare brands are… but for the price their products really do work!  I have tried their hand cream (AHMAZING!) and their Detox Eye Roller (which is the ONLY thing that will de-puff the eyes after watching a sad movie).  What’s great about First Aid beauty too is that all their products are without Parabens and all the bad stuff!  SCORE!  Anyway, I thought that I would try this out – after I take off my make up… I need a little bit more to help exfoliate and to help tone my skin especially when I have hormonal breakouts!
  2. Origins Zero Oil Face Wash – This is TECHNICALLY not for me… and for my fiancé.  I am slowly getting him more involved with skincare and I kind of want to sucker him into moisturizing his skin.  I have already pressured him into eye cream (thank goodness for Clinque’s mens line… it’s easier to sell him on a STRICTLY men’s line).  This is actually a repurchase.  He really liked the tingly feeling that it gave him during the mornings.
  3. Clairsonic Mia Brush Replacement – I mean… this is pretty self explanatory – I desperately needed a new brush and I usually try to get it when Sephora goes on sale… however, I was working and totally missed the 20% off discount… I know… I know… I should be ashamed of myself!
  4. Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream – I needed to add another thing to my beauty regime (like I need a hole in my head) but I need to exfoliate my face and I thought that since Clinuque is having a bit of a renaissance recently I would try what they have to offer.  I used their products when I was younger and it worked for me!  The product is really creamy and gently exfoliates the face which is what i was going for.  I think I just need to get used to adding this to the routine though!

My apologies for not having a more exciting post!  I promise future ones will be much better 🙂

November 2013 Favorites

I can’t believe that it is ALREADY November.  I feel as if I just posted my favorites from October.  I feel like such a bore because you probably already know what my favorite things are because I post Face of the Day’s all the time.  However, the last part of the month I have been a bit more adventurous with the make up and the routine.

November Favorites

  1. Kirklands Make Up Remover wipes – There are some days when the 12 step nightly skincare routine just isn’t the thing I want to do after a long work day.  So I go to my Kirklands Make Up Remover wipes that I snagged from Costco.  In case you were wondering… these wipes are come in 100 pieces for $11 bucks.  They take off most if not all of my make up and I do a clean sweep with the Bioderma to make sure that everything’s been removed.
  2. Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo – This is a morning time saver if there ever was one!!!  In my journey to purchase dry shampoo that absorbs really well into my noggin, they all have turned up in the Discontinued bin: Fekkai, Oscar Blandi, etc. I even went with baby powder… that didn’t turn out to well (it works in a pinch… but doesn’t give the volume) I am NOT a fan of the dry shampoo sprays… I feel as if I looks a TON of product after every use!
  3. Henri Bendel Uptown 48″ Long Necklace – I bought this a few years ago when I was so tired after work that I didn’t think twice about dropping the cash for a necklace.  I must say that it is a classic piece and a staple in my wardrobe.  It goes with pretty much everything.  It’s great to layer with and it’s also great to wear by itself – so it’s been guilt-free ever since.
  4. Urban Decay Naked Palette – With the release of the new Naked III palette (and the sudden urge to drop $50 on another eyeshadow palette) I thought I should revisit the original (and my personal favorite) to see if I can use it on a regular basis… and I have fallen BACK in LOVE with this palette.  The shadows Naked and Buck have reminded me why I used this almost every day and the color Half Baked when paired with Unveil is pretty amazing.

Those are my favorites for the month!  I can’t believe that it is December already. I already have my New Year’s resolution in my pocket and I resolved to “Shop My Stash” more in 2014!
